What’s a Wala?

A “wala” is a slang term used in Asia, particularly in India, to signify a person with answers.

Why was Greenwala developed?

Most existing online and offline green communities are fragmented and disorganized, not to mention negative. We’re excited about the opportunities to make the world a cleaner, sustainable place, and we’re not alone. What was missing was a network where people could share that enthusiasm either by sharing about what they do or getting tips.

What does “green” mean?

To us, “green” means living a healthful lifestyle, reducing our dependence on foreign oil, minimizing the impact of climate change and developing socially responsible solutions.

Do people really care about protecting the environment?

We think so. Consider these statistics:
* 84% of North Americans aware of Climate Change
* 43% of Americans that believe it is a serious problem
* 95% of European’s aware of Climate Change
* 60% of European’s believe it is a serious problem
* 70% of total respondents feel it is urgent for governments to take immediate steps
* 40% of consumers said their views have changed in the past 12 months
* 11% of consumers (and rising) actively boycott brands that are not “green”
* 100% of people want to reduce their energy costs

Through seed distribution, agroforestry training, and our country programs, we have empowered rural groups to restore tree cover to their lands.
