Recycled spaceship
Back to contest entries
Hi, I hope a spaceship qualifies as a high tech gadget. This one was made with as much recycled/reused material as I could find.
The fuselage is made from an old radio tower that the wind knocked down.
The wings are made from metal doors someone threw out.
The skin (covering) and dorsal fin are made from mdf board someone threw out.
The front tire is from a broken baby carriage.
The engine rotors are hubcaps off an old car.
The engines are old drums that weren't watertight enough for dock floaters, 3 old garbage cans and the bottoms from 3 water jugs.
The nosecone is an inverted lampshape and a piece of plastic from a computer monitor stand.
The back of the canopy is the cover of an old humidifier.
The seatbelts are presumably from an old car (garbage picked).
The seat cushion is from a broken back massager.
Back wheels were bought, but from a surplus store (I think they were gears originally).
Also purchased: paint, glue, bolts, front of canopy & 3 more garbage cans.
I haven't installed the avionics yet, but they'll include:
An old battery from a scooter. A few strobes (new) attached to tubing from old hand vacuums for turbolasers. LEDs from old halloween projects. Switches both new and old (from past hobby projects). Guages from a surplus store. A solar panel (from my camping gear) to keep the battery charged up. An old MP3 player (before I went iPod) and speakers from older computers.

When I get the avionics done, I'll look into installing brakes and getting a license plate. It would be fun to drive around! I did get a few flyby's from helicopters and planes wondering what I was up to.
