Eco-Everything...

I think I qualify to be an Eco-geek by virtue of all that I do to live a very sustainable life. Here's a listing of all the activities I do that may be considered to be eco-friendly.
1). I like gardening very much. I grow my own vegetables. I compost the
yard waste and kitchen waste, and use it in the garden. I also use egg
shells to supplement calcium in the soil. I use organic
fertilizers/bone meals and cow manure for fertilization. The proper
soil preparations lead to less need of watering and better crop yields.
Similarly, I practice the same routine for my flower beds too. I do not
use any pesticides/insecticides. I mostly plant low to moderate water
requirement plants.
2). Energy saving/conservation is always in my mind. Energy saving is
practiced very diligently. Clothes are dried on cloth lines. CFL bulbs
are used through out the house. Instead of an A/C for cooling purposes,
I have a whole house exhaust fan installed in the ceiling of the house
that pulls in fresh cool breeze inside the house. To conserve energy,
Holiday decorations are done in LED miniature lights. The thermostat
for heating is set at 67. We wear socks and heavier clothes to stay
warm and snug into mini down blankets while sitting in the family room.
The TV time is also minimal.
3). We live on an almost vegetarian diet. Eggs and meats are bare
minimum. We do supplement our diet with pulses, nuts and dairy
products.
4). We are very prudent in our water usage. We take very short showers. In the garden we plant low water requirement plants.
5). While grocery and other shoppings we take our own bags. We do not
use plastic bottles. We carry our own metal water canteens. We recycle
all recyclable materials. Anything that we don't need, we give it to
some charitable organizations. We use eco-green paints when we have a
need to paint any room in the house.
In summary, we live a very low carbon-footprint and are very environmentally conscious life.
