Our home was destroyed during Tropical Storm Fay 8/22/08.  We deconstructed the old house and rebuilt on steel stilts so we'll never food again.  Only 4 dumpsters went to the landfill - we reused the old roof shingles, drywall and damaged lumber for landscaping base and mulch.  Virtually everything else was recycled - including 1.38 tons of glass.  The home is scheduled to be the 1st Platinum LEED home in NE Florida (Jacksonville), it's the 1st Gold WaterStar home in Duval County and it's Energy Star rated. It's ruthlessly energy efficient - HERS index of 18.  We have #14 geothermal wells, 68 PV panels on the roof, #2 1,500 gallon rainwater tanks, living walls between the stilts covered in jasmine and honeysuckle. We planted more than 1,000 native plants and have an organic garden.  We also documented the entire process in the Documentary "Built Totally Green $ave Our Future" so others could learn how to build/rehab "Green" for themselves - it also comes with 25+ Energy tips guaranteed to save $100s-$1,000s/annually - PLUS 100s of hours of downloadable research on grants, rebates and incentives on Federal and State levels.
