Three weeks ago Greenwala CEO Rajeev challenged me to see how long I could go without putting gas in my car. You see, now that I work at home I really don’t drive much. As of two days ago, I had a third of a tank left. Then yesterday, my sweet husband came home and proudly announced that he’d filled up my car with gas and washed it too. Thanks, honey! Darn, I wished I had told him what I was trying to do. I had been hoping to make it to five week without putting gas in the car. Oh well. Today’s Day 1 again.
Here are my strategies for driving less:
• Take trains instead of driving -- I live within a mile of three passenger rail lines so I can take mass transit to get to many urban areas in my region.
• Walk to restaurants, shops and the gym – many are within one mile of my place
• Combine errands – When I need to stock up on a bunch of bulk household items, like Costco’s 42-pack of toilet paper or cases of rice milk, I try to do them all at one time.
