General Motors made the following video to generate public support for the U.S. auto manufacturers bailout. The video warns of a complete meltdown of our economy if U.S. taxpayers don’t fork over $25 billion to bail them out. This seems like a stop-gap to me with more requests for bailout money coming in the near future.
Do you think we should tie bailout money to a larger restructuring of the auto industry? I believe GM, Ford and Chrysler will continue to lose market share to Toyota and Honda until they create more fuel efficient vehicles. GM is talking about getting rid of their Saturn line, their most fuel efficient vehicles, in order to cut costs. Fortunately, they are also talking about dropping their Hummer line. Overall, if they get rid of their most and least fuel efficient vehicle lines, that leaves the overall gas mileage of their fleet about the same.
What do you think about the proposed bailout?

They seem stuck in the stone age and a bailout or any assistance needs to be with the agreement that the old guard needs to move on.
They have all the pieces to put together an amazing line of cars. It sort of feels like back when KMart had all those stores and a network, but got out discounted and forgotten by WalMart.
No bailout if it means business as usual.
