fashionRIP Project
Teachstreet_version

the fashionRIP Project utilizes recycouture clothing as an element within the context of the larger story...or how fashion influences, crops, trade, transportation, chemical industries, waste making , recycling, politics, technology etc.

Fashion off the catwalk has a major impact on how we humans translate the world for ourselves and our wants.  This narrow way of thinking has put us on a collision course with the natural eco balance of this planet.  The very balance that helped our species grow and now because of this growth, is jeopardized in its ability to maintain the very cycles that supported the complex biodiversity of life it takes to maintain itself and us. Nature is not the enemy, our way of seeing it is.

As creatures of a natural world we need to see ourselves within the context of the whole,  Our material, exploitive systems to conomic gain has been a delusion of wealth.  It is time to turn our attention away from the fear and open our hearts and wallets to the world we used to believe was possible.  Guess what -it is! As we focus our energy on our ability to heal in body, mind and spirit we will evolve into our better natures.

the fashionRIP Project is a collaborative, local, communication art/fashion/sustainability installation based on a need to use our voices beyond the regular media because we all know we can and must do better than what we are doing now! It is an experiment in possibilities.

The business model that will replicate the experience of this project will support the artists at grassroots levels where the creative blooms best and can be a platform for less hierarchal constructs and whole human  considerations. Our old class systems of owners and workers or leaders and the masses were narrow, artificial, exploitive and arrogantly silly. It is time for another format. It is time for new formats to prove their economic stability based on our new understanding of life..

the fashionRIP blog has more photos and fewer words . It is a better way to understand dynamic growth patterns as the process is understood best by its steps.

Concepts that build a new format of culture have multiple layers and connective threads so they are hard to imagine all at once. It took a long time to perceive and unlike linear simplification this is a more organic, weblike construct and the message unfolds and continues always in many directions.

That is why i focus on fashion. The process and outcomes are applicable to more enterprises and might be a universal model....it is an experiment!

OK human minds hate this open, uncertain terrain and rather stay in the fire until there are no options. I say get out now and challenge our abilities to be leaders toward our finer natures. It isn't a mystery -we have the means...just listen!

I watched the video of your fashion RIP project and really liked it. Can you share a few details about the fashions, such as a) are you the designer? b) what about the designs makes them "green" c) is this an ongoing project with different designs throughout the seasons?

      Hi Linda,
      Thank you!
Yes i design and make each piece. The clothing is from at least 50% second use materials and I try to stay at 70% plus. Some of the dresses started as vintage tattery with minor reFashioning and some pieces are total reconstructs.
The next chapter is on social justice and will feature 7 or more new garments and a new storyline/video etc. I plan on doing 7 chapters. The dream is to show at the Guggenheim as it is the natural place to unwind a tale.

This art installation form is a working experiment in collaborative win/win/win ideals for the concepts that can then be developed to reset the idea what business and sustainable economics can be.

I think your project really adds a lot to the Greenwala community -- I look forward to seeing how you translate social justice into the fashionrip world. I've been to the Guggenheim before and definitely think that your project would work well there -- best of luck.
