Eco-Brew-Bike Concept Catching On With Liccka-Lovers and Greenies Alike

Several weeks ago, I heard about a German-based company that offers a portable beer party experience for enthusiastic embibers who want to take advantage of an all-you-can-drink scenario (without having to worry about navigating the city streets in their intoxicated state).

It seemed like a novel idea -- a biking brew party where the only one literally getting a workout is the stone-cold pedaler, but I never bothered writing about it because I just thought that it was one of those quirky little "oh....that's nice" stories that would just end up fading away into oblivion.

Bad judgement call on my part because this looks to be an emerging trend -- I've since learned that there are many European outlets that offer this type of biking-and-embibing experience.

I just learned that this concept is even making waves on American streets with Portland, Oregon's Hopworksfiets, a "pub bike" that accomodates two full-sized kegs of Urban Brewing's organic, handcrafted beer along with 25 pounds of ice (pictured below).

Fitted with several sturdy racks that allow for the storage of on-the-go-eats like pizza as well as a sound system to help get the party started, this green beer touring vehicle will be upgraded in the future with such extra eco-friendly features like an LED illuminated bar and a pizza rack solar panel that will power the onboard music system.

What makes Hopworksfiets a little different than its predecessors is that they bring the beer to you (rather than toting you around the city at the huffing and puffing expense of the sorry rider in front).

Sounds like a convenient, eco-friendly way to fufill your hankering for liquid hoppy refreshment! More beeeeer....
