Share your creations!

Kieran suggested sharing our creations with each other, so here's a new thread for that. The idea is to inspire others as to what can be made from eco-friendly materials!

I'll start with one of the things I've made. I began accumulating materials about the same time I learned to sew, so I've literally just pieced together designs as I've gotten more experience. One of the designs I'm happiest with is this quilted bag: http://www.flickr.com/photos/satsumabug/4097145070/in/set-72157622580589333/  I saw a similar bag in a thrift/vintage store and wanted to make one of my own, so I made a sketch in the shop and went home to recreate it. I'm really dumb about visualizing things three-dimensionally so it took me forever to figure it out -- actually, my husband deserves the credit -- but now I've got it down. :) It's made almost entirely of small squares of fabric from my scrap bag, and lined with a piece from an old silk sari (given to me by a friend).

I've posted a lot of other things in this set on my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/satsumabug/sets/72157622580589333/

Happy crafting! :) Hope to see what others have made too :)

Satsumabug, first off....I like your name. Secondly, the fact that you've been sewing for just a few months and are already capable of creating such professional-looking craft items is a testament to your wicked crafty skills. Way to go!

I really want to learn how to make basic crafts using recycled items, but I don't know how. Can someone here who is confident in this department start posting simple tutorials with photos of their projects every step of the way? Maybe that's a lot to ask, but I figured that it would be worth a shot.

Wow, sorry, I don't know how my earlier response appeared four times...

Thank you, Bob! I just discovered some amazing online crafting tutorials; there are tons out there. There are many tutorials at this site, mostly focusing on repurposing household objects or making jewelry: http://geltdesigns.com/Tutorials_By_Topic.html For clothing, you could try the videos at http://www.threadbanger.com/ If you have specific materials or projects in mind, you could try just Googling what you're looking for.
