Funky-Cool Hybrid Wind and Solar Powered Street Lamps

Posted by Linda LucilleUser2449_level, Tuesday, July 14 2009, 01:50 PM

These stylish and somewhat artsy looking hybrid wind and solar powered street lamps, designed and created by Urban Green Energy, are capable of operating completely off-grid by using renewable energy to provide light.

Fully customizable according to the design elements that appeal to you, each has a solar array topped with a wind turbine capable of generating up to 380 W of power in ideal weather conditions (i.e. full sun and steady wind).

Easily mounted to a standard galvanized steel pole, the turbine on top can be either a 300 W 2nd Generation vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) or a horizontal axis wind turbine.

Fixed to the side of the pole are 2 solar panels made by F3 Solar that are capable of generating up to 80 W of power.

Between the two sources of power, the excess energy generated is then stored in a battery that illuminates the high efficiency LEDs throughout the evening.

Urban Green Energy’s Hybrid Wind/Solar Lamps will soon be installed along the streets of one undisclosed city in China, and it won’t be surprising if many other metropolitan areas follow suit.

Ooooo, I like these. They look way more interesting than what normally lines our streets. Love the solar-LED aspect especially.
