When deciding to redecorate a home, or even decorate it for the first time, you are presented with a lot of choices. Some options are commercial and contemporary and others are more earthy and natural. If you are interested in creating a home with a green lifestyle in mind, one of the best ways to decorate is with natural elements. Leave the plastic shelving for modern homes and opt instead for some of the wall art and decor ideas below when decorating a wall in an eco-friendly home.

Green Walls
If the wall that you will be decorating receives a lot of sunlight during the day, a great way to decorate it is with live plants. Ferns, violets and other small indoor plants can be placed in wall vases or on shelves. Choose materials for the containers that are natural elements, like wood and metal. Shelves should also be made of wood. If possible, re-purpose old floor boards or planks to fashion shelves for the room. This helps cut down on the material going to the landfill and also creates one-of-a-kind shelving. The greenery will instantly bring the walls to life and will create a tranquil feel to the room.

Something Fishy
Small aquariums offer homeowners a wide range of decorating possibilities. Many aquarium manufacturers are now offering their products in shelf-sizes that are ideal for wall decor. Set them on sturdy, handmade shelves or in recessed pockets in the wall. Make sure that wherever they are placed, they are sturdy and secure, and that there is adequate ventilation for filters and for the tank itself. Do not forget to tuck cords out of the way, so that the aquarium does not accidentally get knocked over. These true, living wall art pieces offer tranquility and color to otherwise undecorated walls like no other wall accessory can.

Metal Madness
If flowing greenery and swimming fish are just not your idea of the ideal decor, consider using large metal art pieces to decorate the walls. Metal, being a natural element, looks right at home in an eco-friendly home. Today's metal wall art pieces come in a variety of shapes, sizes and metals. They can range from petite and sophisticated to bold and contemporary. Everything from bronze to copper is used to craft these metal pieces that bring style and originality to a room's walls.

Wild Wreaths
Wreaths made from dried flowers, twigs and other natural elements are another possibility for wall decor. They come in any number of shapes, sizes and materials, which makes them versatile and ideal for matching unusual decors. When choosing pieces for your wall, select wreaths that have the same general colors and theme as the rest of the room. If you cannot find one that matches your needs, consider making your own with expert advice from consultants at local arts and crafts supply stores.

There are many options for decorating with natural elements in the home. Choose the pieces that work well with your room's current decor and main furniture pieces. Creating a green house is about each aspect of the home's decor, so make sure the walls reflect your desire for all things eco-friendly.
