Get your motor runnin’ … HEAD OUT ON THE HIGHWAY!!!  Sorry about that, but some rides are just so cool that they make me want to sing.  And the Siemens Smart Chopper, fabricated by Orange County Choppers, is one of these rides.

One of the major “arguments” (if you can call it that) promoted by anti-green motorheads is that green vehicles are neither cool, nor fast.  Well, this battery-powered chopper is both.  You can hop on, fly to work at speeds exceeding 100mph (though we don’t suggest it), turn every head you pass, then plug her it into any outlet when you get there.  She’s sleek, aerodynamic, and looks like something out of a sci-fi comic.  Though my favorite feature is the bike’s lack of an exhaust, allowing for a much quieter ride, and no more window-rattling, fury-inducing shock waves when she drives past my house.

For the motorcycle enthusiast who loves a loud ride, ever-increasing gas prices, enraged neighbors, and burst eardrums, this may not be the bike for you.  But for the chopper lover that wants the bike of the future, this is it.

But the Siemens Smart Chopper is not the only green bike out there.  As motorcycles naturally  require less energy, their merging with green technology has been much smoother than with other forms of transportation.  Zero Motorcycles, for example, are known as the king of the electric dirt bike.   They sell electric bikes exclusively, and have been growing in leaps in bounds since opening in 2006.  With a 50% federal rebate incentive, and a blessing from noted motor-head Jay Leno, this company, along with Brammo Enertia Motorcycles (another exclusively electric motorcycle brand) promise to be the template for successful green companies in the future.

If you’re a biker, and a greeny, we invite you to join the Greenwala Hybrid and Electric Motorcycle Enthusiasts group.  It’s the best place to meet like-minded people who share the same enjoyment of cool bikes and conservation.
