Listen to Music Without Using Energy

Historically, blasting your lame parents out of bed with a mega-righteous power ballad required a ton of electricity.  You’d have to plug-in all sorts of gadgets that would suck all sorts of juice out of the wall.  And then, your freakin’ dad (who totally doesn’t get you) could just stomp into your room and pull the plug out of the wall, and your rebellion was over.  How are you supposed to express your angst when the man keeps kicking you down?

But what about those of you who aren’t interested in lowering property values in the town you live through noise pollution?  Maybe you just like to listen to the ball game in the kitchen while you cook.  Maybe you like to listen to talk radio while you garden.  Maybe, like me, you enjoy listening to recordings of your own breathing. Whether it’s loud and angry, or soft and whimsical, now it can all be energy free.

For energy free music, many people look to solar-powered mp3 players.  There are many on the market, they’re easy to find, easy to charge, and great for the environment.  But, as a true music lover, I want to know that my mp3 player will work at night and inside, even if I can’t get it into direct sunlight.  And that’s why I am especially excited about the upcoming Chukka kinetic music player.

It fuels itself on kinetic motion.  In other words, you play with it, and it charges the battery.  It’s a music player that’s powered by joy.  Here’s a video of the Chukka at play.

An ultra-flexible data wire connects the two weighted halves, allowing it to act like a stress toy.  The outside is made of thermoplastic polyurethane, a recyclable plastic, which requires little energy to produce.  Sadly, they are still in development.  But, keep an eye out for release before Christmas.  Get more info at: www.mascdesign.co.uk/#/chukka/4536704002.

As for the speakers, there are a few options out there already.  There are numerous solar-powered speakers designed for garden parties and high intensity sun areas, but again, we want to express our awesomeness at night as well as during the day.  That’s where Eco Speakers come into the picture.

They use the power from your mp3 player, or whatever they’re plugged into, to amplify sound.  They’re simple, portable, perfect for everything, and they cost the environment nothing.  It’s often simple, elegant little devices like this that go the farthest towards saving the environment.  They’re purchasable for about fifteen dollars at merkuryinnovations.com, and could be helping you totally stick it to the man within a few days.
