Top Chef host and cookbook author Padma Lakshmi has had a big week! Last week she was a part of the Frito Lay Campaign in Times Square New York to help promote their Flavor Kitchen that was promoting the "healthy" all-natural potato chips line. Frito Lay recreated their Flavor Kitchen onto a billboard in Times Square. Yes, that is right, the kitchen was on a stage as a billboard and they were cooking live to promote the chips.
In additiona to promoting the new all-natural snacks she confirmed via People magazine that she has decided to go back to her vegetarian roots along with putting her daughter on the same Indian food vegetarian diet!
Here are some thoughts about her campaign with Frito Lay:
"The reason that I got involved is because they launched the initiative recently which we're very committed to and that's making sure that half of their whole product portfolio is made with all natural ingredients. That means no artificial preservatives, no artificial flavors or preservatives, no MSG, no transfats as well.
The brands that I eat the most are SunChips, Lays, Tostitos because I love chips and salsa. All those brands are all natural or will be all natural by the end of the year. Many of them are already on the market and always were all natural. Like Lays Barbeque Potato Chips for example which I love, I was worried that the taste wasn't going to be the same. It turns out there was nothing artificial in them."
So what do you think of Frito Lay's puch for having 50% of their line going all-natural and Padma's change going back to being a vegetarian?
I am really curious to see how she with hosting on Top Chef? Will she still try all of the non-veg dishes?
As far as Frito Lay, I applaud them for trying to be more healthy and all-natural, but hope that it can increase more than just half of their chips. Also, hopefully they can expand the Sun Chips eco-friendly bags along their whole product line.
