What do yogurt and toothbrushes have to do with the living green? Everything!I recently learned that Stonyfield, the largest organic yogurt producer teamed up with Recycline, the parent company of Preserve recycled toothbrushes. Stonyfield donates their unusable yogurt cups to be made into these green personal care products, all the while preventing waste and producing sustainable merchandise. For an unlikely marriage, this union works. Forward thinking companies with old world values proving it possible to build successful companies without sacrificing their values or the planet.
A video on youtube provides more information on how they are making this happen.
As a discerning consumer at thebelist.com, we work to understand a company's values. We have been hearing a saying frequently that resonates with me."We Vote". The concept that "We VOTE with our purchase choices," is really powerful. Whether it is food or stuff that we are buying, we have the power to refuse to buy from companies that don't meet use green manufacturing methods. How empowering, with every purchase, we contribute to supporting green companies and our health. Once I found out about Preserve toothbrushes, I completely switched to them. It just makes sense to choose the green option when it is available. Many natural grocery stores sell personal care products, also, so check out your markets and start making the switch in your medicine cabinets as well as your pantries. You can make a difference, simply by switching your purchases to better products!
I have been a customer of Stonyfield yogurt for a long time. It isn't something I eat everyday, but yogurt is a great snack option that is easy to travel with and it can be really healthy. My favorite discovery recently is Greek yogurt. It is silky and rich tasing with no fat, no dietary cholesterol, and it is completely organic, so the cows are not treated with hormones or antibiotics. The plain flavor is the best for you since it limits the amount of sugar. If you want to jazz it up, try adding some granola, muesli (another amazing food!) or cut up some fresh fruit-a better option than the "fruit on the bottom" style.
