Have you been trying to lose weight and struggling? Does it seem like no matter how good your diet is and how much you exercise you still can't lose weight? You may want to look at your beauty products.
Losing weight isn't just about eating less and exercising. A new study by doctors at Mount Sinai Medical Center has found that "chemical calories" in beauty products and other household items interfere with hormones and throw off the body's natural weight control system.
Phthalates are in 70% of beauty products, including those marketed for children. When children and adults are exposed to phthalates the chances of childhood obesity and adult weight problems become high.
Phthalates are found in beauty products, cleaning products, scented candles, vinyl and more. You won't find it listed on ingredient labels however. The best way to avoid phthalates is to avoid vinyl and anything with "fragrance."
BPA, which is also very prevelent, has also been linked to obesity. BPA is found in rigid plastics, aluminum beverage and food can linings, baby bottles, sippy cups and store receipts. And, as I wrote about yesterday, has been found to make healthy breast cells act like cancer cells and block cancer drugs from working.
