Last halloween my daughter received a Disney Princess Necklace filled with purple grape flavored lip gloss. She loved it, but I hated it. It was no doubt filled with ingredients I don't want my young daughter exposed to.
I'm a big believer in lip balm. The skin on the lips doesn't have oil glands so you need to apply moisture topically. Also, I live in the Rocky Mountains where the air is dry year-round so lip balm is a must. Also, like most girls, my daughter wants to wear makeup like Mommy does. I'm not about to let her wear lip stick or lip gloss, so a lip balm that's good for her lips is a good compromise and gets her in the habit of taking care of her lips.
So, I set out to find a lip balm that is totally safe and fun enough to appeal to a little girl. Most of the "natural" products I looked at had 1 or more ingredients I didn't like. Others that had good ingredients either were in flavors & scents that wouldn't appeal to a little girl or were too expensive. I don't mind paying for products I'm going to use on myself, but I knew my daughter would wear too much, turn the dial up too far, leave it where it would melt, or lose it. So, I didn't want to spend more than about $3 so that if she mistreated it or lost it I wouldn't be upset.
I was about to give up when I found Dagoba Roseberry USDA Certified Organic Lip Balm by Eco Lips.

I was a little skeptical at first because my previous experience with Eco Lips was with their SPF lip balm which has the dangerous ingredients octinoxate and oxybenzone.
But, when I looked at the ingredients I realized this product doesn't have SPF and is safe.
The Ingredients:
*Organic Sunower Seed Oil, *Organic Beeswax, *Organic Cocoa Seed Butter, *Organic Jojoba Oil, *DAGOBA Organic Cacoa Powder, *Organic Chocolate Flavor, *Organic Raspberry Flavor, Vitamin E, *Organic Calendula Flower Extract, *Organic Rose Hip Fruit Oil.
*= Certified Organic Ingredients
GLUTEN FREE
What I like about this product and brand:
- It is certified organic so I know there are no unsafe chemicals, pesticide residues or genetically modified ingredients
- The cocoa powder they use from Dagoba is fair trade certified guaranteeing the producers are paid a fair wage
- The chocolate raspberry flavor is fun
- Many of the ingredients are nourishing and rejuvenating to the skin
- They have a lot of other flavors and scents to choose from
- They are members of the Organic Trade Association
- They are a Green America Approved business
What I don't like about this product and brand:
- Since they use unsafe ingredients in other products I don't feel like I can trust them 100%. I feel the need to look at every ingredient for every product before purchasing from them to make sure there aren't any ingredients I don't want to expose my family to.
- I think the Roseberry name is bit misleading. The focus is really on the cocoa, not the rose so it would have been more clear if the name reflected that.
Would I recommend this product?: Yes. While I may not like some of their other products, this product is effective as well as socially and environmentally responsible. I would buy it again.
Where can I find it?: You can buy directly from the Eco Lips website, Amazon.com or many health food stores.
I was not given this product to review by the company. I bought it with my own money for my family's use and decided to share our experience with you.
