Regular readers may remember that I wrote about a soap nut laundry soap product a few months ago.  I had been pleasantly surprised that a little sack of dried fruit was an effective detergent, but I was still pretty nervous about using this product on my lighter clothes or the especially stinky loads.  The lovely people over at Eco Nuts asked me to try their liquid product, which is comparable to what I had tried before, and assured me that nothing bad would happen to my more sensitive clothes.

I’ve been using the liquid for about a month now and I can’t say enough nice things about it.  I don’t know why I was worried; this product works great on all my laundry.  My clothes come out of the wash smelling nothing but clean.  Even when I am washing a particularly dirty load, like my teenager’s clothes or when we returned from camping.  That one really impressed me!  I thought for sure I would need to run that load again.  But no – not necessary!

What else do I like about Eco Nuts?  The liquid comes in aluminum packaging so there is no plastic involved.  They get big bonus points from me on that!

I asked the makers of Eco Nuts about their production process, and while they were not able to share their proprietary methods, they were able to convince me that their facilities operate as sustainably as possible.  While their facilities are not officially certified as organic, they operate according to organic standards.  And the product is produced entirely in the United States, making it “local” of sorts.

I was a little concerned about how sustainable the liquid was compared to the berries, but the makers of Eco Nuts don’t feel that there is much difference.  They provide both options as a matter of preference and also report that the liquid is better for hard water and stubborn stains as it is stronger than the berries alone.

Overall, I have found Eco Nuts to be a very effective detergent that also happens to be a sustainable and non-toxic option.  I highly recommend this product to anyone, especially those looking for natural and sustainable alternatives for household products.  Are you ready to try it out?  You can order your own Eco Nuts products, liquid or berries, at www.EcoNutsSoap.com.  Or better yet, head over to the Greenwala Marketplace to place your order there.  And please let me know how you like it!

Hey Melissa, can you tell me what's in the liquid? If there's water it needs to be preserved. Do you know what they use? Do they use essential oils?
