I am so excited to report that 5 weeks later, my little garden babies are growing! In Part I and Part II of 'How To Start Your Own Little Organic Garden', I shared with you my oh-so-cool discovery of the indoor planting pods where I could sew my seeds and watch them come to life. The trays from Planters Pride made the daunting idea of starting new garden seem much less like work and much more like baby steps to renewing my garden.

Last year I started a container garden from little plant starts, and all summer long I enjoyed a beautiful variety of organic greens, strawberries and herbs. I did not complete the cycle by harvesting my own seeds so I was essentially starting from scratch.

Luckily, I was able to recover the soil from the old containers, which I reused as well. All I had to do was to remove the top-most dry layer and mix all the soil in a large bin along with fresh soil chicken manure and fertilizer. Then I potted all my new babies which you can see are now on their way to being full grown starts. I even got creative and used upside-down tomato planters as protection from the birds and deer who visit my yard on a frequent basis.

So overall, my garden project is a success. Watch for updates on what actually becomes a harvest and part of my summer fresh raw foods table!

I like the way you have started with container gardening. It is easy to manage not very messy. However, being an avid garden, I enjoy getting my hands dirty. I have a garden patch for vegies and few floral beds too. With the onset of spring, I am in the process of planting spinach, beans, peas, okra, edible gourds, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, radish, carrots etc. It is so much fun to see the plants grow to fruition. Among the flowers, I enjoy Dahlias the most. Roses also fill up a big patch of my garden. Gardening is such a healthy activity, including being outdoors and enjoying/ commensurateing with the wonders of nature. And along the way enjoy the fruits of your labor. I would be looking forward to your future posts and learn more about your gardening techniques. I like your use of upside down tomato cages to ward off pesty creatures. Happy gardening to you.
