China is currently working on what is to be the largest sports complex seen in Asia. Incorporated in this sports park will be public areas to spectate that are seemingly picturesque. The size of the park will be of Olympian status, inspired by floral inspirations found in the West Lake of Hangzhou. NBBJ and CCDI put their collaborative brains together to design this 400,000 square-meter Hangzhou Sports Park in Hangzhou, China. The construction was started at the end of 2003 and is said to be completed three years from now.

Here are some more details about the Hangzhou Sports Park:

"The new sports park is located on the Qian Tang riverfront opposite of the city's new Central Business District. It's designed to be a sustainable public park amidst all of the dense urban development that has consumed the rest of the city. Hangzhou Sports Park is designed to be more than just a large sports stadium - the park will also include open space, walking trails, a tennis facility, retail space, community playing fields and an extreme sports area. Inspiration for the design for the park and the stadium was drawn from the geometry of the nearby river delta as well as the flora of the nearby lake."

This is a seemingly sustainable structure that is breaking the rules on what it means to have an environmentally friendly. The structure is on its way towards generating energy and water efficiently, as well as acquiring a green building certification. Renewable green energy buildings are in our future, and Hangzhou is taking the necessary steps to be on the forefront of this new idea.
