Wow. I have always been a big fan of U2 and Bono not just for their music but also for his stand on poverty across the world. However, I just read a story over on Ecorazzi about how his ONE Foundation is using most of it's donations to pay executives and that ONLY 1.2% of the donations are being split among three poverty fighting causes.
I am a little blown away by this information. I know charities and foundations need to pay their employees and use a good portion for marketing but when only 1.2% ($190,000) is split among 3 different charities you have to really wonder what is going on?
Not sure who should be the one to blame in this situation and we have heard similar stories before. Including some rumors and accusations about Wyclef Jean's YeleHaiti foundation.
Bono's is definitely on the front lines trying to raise awarness but he has to also know how much money is being spent towards executives and employees ($8 Million) v going towards the charities they represent.
A spokesperson from ONE defended the foundation by saying that since they are an "advocacy and campaigning organization", that money needs to be spent on promoting their causes.
