Most Drivers Don't Buckle Fido In

CamoSeatBelt.jpgWhen you travel with your dog, do you buckle him up? A new survey by AAA reveals that 9 out of 10 drivers don't – and that could be a big safety hazard for the furry one you love.

"In addition to neglecting to buckle up man's best friend," claims the survey, "65 percent of dog owners also admitted to engaging in distracting behavior while driving with their dog, such as petting their dog (52 percent), reaching in the backseat to interact with their dog (18 percent), or allowing their dog to sit in their lap (17 percent)."

When we take our dog for a ride, most of us think it's a chance for him or her to stick their head out the window and enjoy a little fresh air, but when you really consider the situation, dogs can get just as seriously hurt as people if there's a fender bender. So why aren't we buckling them up?

Even if you're not keen on keeping your dog kenneled in the back when you go for rides, there are a plethora of dog seat belts on the market that aren't expensive in the slightest. It may not seem as fun as letting him stick his head out the window and wag his tail at all the passers-by, but buckling your pet up could ultimately protect their life.
