We all know that obesity is a major problem that can cause your body to age faster than its years, but did you know that it's also been linked to Alzheimers? Did you know that smoking has been linked to the development of that disease as well?
Two big reasons to cut those unhealthy habits N.O.W.
A new study currently appearing in a journal called Neurology illustrates just how quickly an unhealthy lifestyle can catch up to us. Four specific factors (obesity, diabetes, smoking and hypertension) were all found to contribute to the breakdown of essential brain matter after only a decade, with smoking standing out as one of the fastest ways to lose overall brain volume.
"Obesity [leads] to brain shrinkage, ironically despite overall body enlargement," the study also concludes. "Obese subjects were more likely to experience declines in test scores for various brain tasks, such as memory and abstract thinking."
Obesity is almost entirely avoidable, as is smoking, and with this new information regarding the connection between these avoidable issues and a degenerative brain disease – how could we not want to shape up?
