Bret Easton Ellis Set to Scare You With New Shark Horror Movie

jaws-original.jpgIf Jaws and Shark Week aren't enough to make you hesitant to swim in the deep end, Bret Easton Ellis (the writer behind "American Psycho") wants to try his hand at scaring the crap out of you when it comes to pointy fins in the water.

"Bait," a new film to be penned by Ellis and directed by Paul Schrader (the writer behind "Raging Bull" and "Taxi Driver"), is supposedly going to be all about sharks eating various people in various ways. Awesome.

"The film focuses on a young man working at an upscale resort who comes to resent the wealthy people around him," MNN.com reports. "Nevertheless, he decides to flirt with a woman — in the process getting beat up and humiliated by her boyfriend. This sends him over the edge, and he plots revenge by hijacking a boat full of rich kids and "disposing" of them one by one to a circling pack of blood-frenzied sharks."

As long as the sharks themselves aren't going to be portrayed as evil monsters set out to kill people for no reason ("Deep Blue Sea" anyone?), I suppose another horror / thriller around the dangers of the cold, dark ocean is fine. I mean, why not scar another generation from ever wanting to touch the ocean again?
