Running the numbers is kind of like running with scissors: are you sure you want to do that? Not knowing makes life so much simpler.

Artist Chris Jordan wants us to wrap our brains around the enormous numbers of our collective environmental and social impacts. How do you show one million plastic airline cups Americans use every six hours? What would 410,000 paper cups look like stacked together? That is the number of paper cups we use every 15 minutes. What do 2.3 million prison uniforms representing the number of people incarcerated in the U.S. look like? Take a look at this fascinating video and tell us what you think.

Those are some staggering statistics. He is so right about how we as human beings dismiss ideas from our consciousness. His ability to describe social consequences in art is really remarkable.
