Green Gadget Gifts

Is the term green gadget an oxymoron? Not when the gadget helps you seriously reduce your use of electricity or paper.

Here is Greenwala’s list of green gadget gifts that are easy on the eyes and easy on the planet.

1. Solio Hybrid Solar Charger

Spread out the three blades to absorb sunlight for 8 to 10 hours and then use it to charge cell phones, iPods, MP3 players, PDAs, game players, GPS units or digital cameras. The internal battery stores power for more than 1 year.

2. Kill A Watt

Plug each of your electronic devices and appliances into this meter and you’ll find out which use the most energy. What may surprise you is how much energy some of your electronics use when they’re supposedly “off.” This will help you adjust your electricity use and lower your bill.

3. LED Night Light
Some people leave lights on in rooms they are not in because they don’t want to stumble through the dark to turn them on. This LED Night Light costs 0.25 cents per year to operate and provides enough light to find that elusive light switch.

4. Kindle Wireless Reading Device

If you love to read but your home is cluttered with too many newspapers, magazines and books, then perhaps the Kindle is for you. It weighs 10 ounces, reads like real paper and can send you any of 190,000 books within a minute. The Kindle can also auto-deliver top U.S. newspapers, international newspapers and some of the best blogs. The next time you’re riding on the train or bus and need your fix of theonion.com, the New York Times or Thomas Friedman’s latest book Hot, Flat and Crowded, they will all be at your fingertips.

5. Wattson
The best way to understand the Wattson is to see a video of the energy monitoring device in action.

6. Solar Powered Backpack " target="_blank">Solar Powered Backpack

For conspicuous conservationists, who want to wear their values on their back, the solar powered backpack may be just the status symbol they’re looking for. The backpack’s 2,200 mAh Lithium Ion battery can charge an iPod, cell phone, PDA and digital camera. The solar panels are tough, lightweight and waterproof.
