IMG_5984.JPGTypically Spring Break is known as a great time to relax and let loose. Let the worries of school just float away for a week. This doesn't, however, mean that you have to let your green habits float away too. Here are four ways that you can make your spring break more eco-friendly.

Tip #1: Go Alternative

If you want to skip bikinis and parties, eco-vacations let you experience fun, new places while doing something productive. Some college campuses already offer alternative spring break programs. Other organizations to look into include Habitat for Humanity, United Way, and i-to-i.

Tip #2: Give up using your car for the week. Get that old bike out of the garage and enjoy the sun. If you are going on a road trip maybe look into renting a hybrid. You'll save on gas. Try these Carbon-Neutral Travel ideas.

Tip #3: Hotels are major consumers of water and cleaning chemicals. Try staying with a homestay with a local family. CouchSurfing also offeres lodging for no cost. Check out different sustainable lodging opportunities.

Tip #4: Go for a greener beach party. Avoid using the plastic cups and drink what's on tap. Keg beer has a 68 percent lighter carbon footprint than the bottled stuff.

If the sun is out check out organic sunscreen and beach towels. Instead of getting a new swim suit maybe just keep with the old one.

Try these tips to keep your green spirit going over Spring Break!
