Help Reverse the Bush Administration's Rush to Drill the Arctic

On his way out of Washington, former President Bush pushed through a plan that would sell off almost all of Alaska's Arctic waters to Big Oil and would also open California's coastlines to drilling. This plan continues the U.S.'s unmatched contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and threatens coastal economies, vibrant fisheries, traditional Alaska Native communities, and endangered Arctic wildlife.

In April, new Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar put a halt to this unbalanced plan by extending the public comment period through September. The deadline to act, however, is fast approaching and your voice is needed more than ever!

Please urge Secretary Salazar and the Minerals Management Service to stop Arctic oil and gas projects, protect California's coastlines, and uphold the new Administration's commitments to addressing climate change, protecting the environment, and respecting the rights of indigenous cultures. Send him an email by clicking here!

Pacific Environment has witnessed offshore oil and gas development destroy communities, disrupt traditional indigenous cultures, soil beaches, and kill countless numbers of birds, marine mammals, fish, and other wildlife. We have an opportunity to prevent another Exxon Valdez tragedy. Join Pacific Environment today in speaking out against offshore drilling along America's coastlines and for the adoption of policies that address climate change and protect the Arctic Ocean!

Help protect one of the last unspoilt frontiers. If we exploit this environment, it will be a sign that nothing is sacred and the message about Global Warming is going unheeded by USA politicians!

Thank you for spreading awareness about Arctic oil drilling plans -- I just signed the petition and forwarded it to everyone in my sphere. With all of the waste-to-fuel technologies that we are developing, it is beyond me why they would pursue this kind of madness, except for the fact that...oh wait, we're talking about the oil industry here. Profit before environmental concern has always seemed to be their motto. If the oil industry instead focused on reclaiming all of the petroleum-based plastics that are polluting our landscape, waterways and landfills, then they'd have enough "new black oil" to keep them afloat for eons. There's got to be a way to turn old plastic into a viable fuel source -- THAT'S where I think their focus should be.

It confuses me just how politicians (on the whole) are intent on using all our resources we have and then having a plan in place for 'after' we run out, when really they should be looking at not having to 'finish' it at all.
