Something very interesting and funny posted by Renêe Sweany on dailygreen.com NASA is sending chimpanzees to space again, but it's not what you think! A crew member of an upcoming mission requested the Endangered Species Chocolate "chimpanzee" bar for a snack aboard the shuttle. Flight STS-119, headed for the International Space Station, launches February 12, 2009. United Space Alliance (USA), the company responsible for procuring "fresh food" for the mission, purchased eight dark chocolate bars, one for each crew member. Fresh food on the space shuttle means food that isn’t freeze dried and specially packaged for space. Astronauts can eat some foods in their natural form, like chocolate and fruit, but other foods require adding water. They even have all of the typical condiments, though salt and pepper are in liquid form because astronauts can't sprinkle salt and pepper on their food in space – it would just float away! Let's just hope we don’t hear "Houston, we have a problem. We're out of chocolate." on the airwaves.
