Many of us fantasize about the day when we will receive that big promotion, with the corner office on the top floor, a big mahogany desk, and a view of the city. The prestige and pay would be nice, but how about the increased sunlight that would come with those giant windows?
Scientific studies about day-lighting in schools, stores, and businesses have concluded that exposure to natural sunlight significantly increases human productivity. In an ideal world, every building would have an expansive atrium where even the lowest-level workers could snag some rays, but the nation’s building stock has generally not been designed this way.
Fortunately, there are options to retrofitting existing buildings in order to provide more natural light to cubicles, classrooms, and stores. Parans Solar Lighting captures sunlight in solar panels and brings it to overhead lighting and spotlights through fiber-optic cables.
Lighting consumes 17.5% of the global power supply. Managers who invest in solar lighting can not only take a portion of their company’s lighting off the grid and reduce their contribution to climate change, but also realize utility bill savings and increased worker productivity.
Though Parans is just one of many companies working on these technologies, Parans was named a Climate Solver by WWF Sweden because of this innovation. Check out videos about Parans and the 11 other WWF Sweden Climate Solver technologies.
