23,000 Dolphins brutally massacred

is Enough!

Dear President Obama:

I know you are working double time to course correct the many discords and imbalances we have on our planet and I hate to bother you again. But this has to stop. This is what I keep talking about. My heart is heavy and something has to be done about this. What has happened to us? Have we gone so far down the rabbit hole that we have lost all respect for every living thing on this planet? We must retrieve our dignity and respect for all species quickly, before it is too late. Time is short.

For some reason, we human beings prefer not to know about such horrors. We like to bury our heads and adopt an out-of-sight out-of-mind attitude. It happened in the Jewish Death Camps during the second world war and it continues today with genocide in various parts of world. And it is happening to our natural world - death camps. The way we slaughter our animals and eradicate entire species from our beloved ecosystem without a thought to the devastation we are creating on our finite eco systems and ultimately ourselves.

The irony of this is that we human beings are the ones to ultimately pay the price as we depend on a healthy balanced natural world, in this case, oceans for our very survival. The oceans are already severely and dangerously depleted due to large trawler over fishing that takes all in its path with one and two mile nets. And we allow bottom trawling 600 to 1,000 ft down destroying entire habitats, yet to be explored, and killing and dragging up species we have never seen before and have no idea what their symbiotic relationship is in the oceans biodiversity.

We human beings seem to have developed a macabre interest in suffering, death, torture and killing. Just watch our daily and nightly news and you will know what I am talking of. And then there are just as many who can't stand it and are working hard to stop it. I am one of those. For those who are into violent movies, video games and the latest trend in hardcore “reality” tv, perhaps looking into the reality of how our partners in life, in the natural world, have to deal with our imposed violence and hardships would be a better use of their time. This includes how we grow and harvest our food supply, particularly our animals, fish and chickens –the large corporate harvesters and the smaller ones like in the new movie, "THE COVE".

"A new movie, "The Cove", starring Hayden Panettiere and Isabel Lucas. is a heart-wrenching movie that documents the more than 23,000 dolphins killed in one little cove in Taigi, Japan, each year. Back in November of 2007, Panettiere and Lucas joined several other activists in paddling out to the cove in an attempt to stop the slaughter of a pod of dolphins. (You can see some harsh video of the confrontation here.) "

Thousands of bottle-nosed dolphins, like popular TV character Flipper, and Risso's dolphins are also being killed. The Dalls porpoise is the worst affected, with the Environment Investigation Agency estimating that around 17,000 are harpooned off the East coast of Japan, speared from speedboats." Marine mammal specialist Ric O'Barry of One Voice-France, who has been leading protests against the killing for over a decade, explains his reasons and methods in this article.

Extract from Article: A clash of cultures: http://www.japanfocus.org/-David-McNeill/2306

“Having witnessed the dolphin slaughters myself, I can report with absolute certainty that the Japanese people are not guilty of these crimes against nature. I saw only 26 whalers in 13 boats drive dolphins into a cove and slaughter them. The vast majority of the people in Taiji and surrounding villages were exceptionally friendly toward our small group of protesters, and should not be targeted and punished for something they are not guilty of. The Japanese people don't need a boycott. They need access to the information that we take for granted. If they knew the truth about the dolphin slaughter, they would help us to stop it.”

And it's Not only Happening in Japan!

This brutal bloodbath also occurs in the Faroe Islands, Denmark,          a member of the European Union

YEAR AFTER YEAR THE BRUTAL bloody butchery goes on in the Faroe Islands, Denmark.

A country supposedly 'civilized' and part of the European Union.  For many people this attack on life is unknown.  To attend this bloody slaughter is often a ‘right-of-passage’ for those entering adulthood.  This dolphin and whale massacre is committed against the  “Calderon” species an intelligent dolphin that trusts and approaching humans out of sheer curiosity.  The ultimate betrayal of trust between our dolphin population and us.  (Extract from: http://animalblawg.wordpress.com/2009/05/29/dolphin-slaughter-in-denmark/

My prayer is that as we confront this horror and senseless slaughter of our friends in the natural world, and that we will collectively and globally rise up and say “Enough”. Enough of profits above all else. Enough of objectifying and treating our fellow species (and ourselves) as a dollar figure on a balance sheet; Enough of this headlong rush toward our own destruction. Enough of the killing and maiming and slaughter of all species, including human. Enough.

ENOUGH!
