Posted by jen w - July 21, 2009 01:31 AM Another excellent, yet heart wrenching article PDJ MOO. There are countless stories documenting the annihilation of living creatures, including dog and cat culling as a means of animal control and it is absolutely sickening. Surely there must be humane methods of stray animal population control...., but is there the desire? Those of us who have the capacity to see animals through eyes of compassion can not fathom mass killings of dolphins. This world need an epiphany. Perhaps more messages like this will do the trick ~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KY9LaxVkDM

" I speak to very wide range [of people], from adults to elementary school kids. I was speaking to the Nike Corporation a couple months ago and I really didn't know what to do at first--whether to address them as a corporation, or as individuals--but I decided to speak to them as individuals and asked them to think about what was important to them, and shared what was important to me. I think we share a lot of common human values, and they are connected to how we treat our environment and our communities. "
"When I was young I formed ECO, the Environmental Children's Organization, because of an experience I had in the Amazon where I witnessed this incredible world and saw that it was being burned. I thought, "Someone has to do something about this!" So eventually we went to the World Summit in Rio. We went there to remind the delegates why they were there and ask them to do the right thing.
We got back, and ten years passed, and what do we really see from that summit? Well, I don't know that we've seen too much.
Over the last few years, after Rio, I was invited to many, many different conferences. Over time I've realized: this is not where we're going to see change. We've seen positive activism happening in the last ten years at the grassroots level, in small communities. It's about the individuals that make up the statistics about consumption and pollution, as well as the people who feel the negative impact, who are actually going to be the change. "
Greenwalas, we need to BE the change :)

"When your actions arise from the center of awarness where all things are connected, they can uplift humanity. If you want to uplift humanity, you cannot do by just handing out clothes, or distributing money, or teaching about a higher standard of living. You cannot truly help people if you just create more and more programs for those who are sick and poor. HYou must come from that beautiful space within yourself, supreme Consciousness. And there must be constancy in your remembrance of this. That is when all your actions bear fruit. Think of Nature. Nature is constantly mesmerizing us with her beauty and teaching us great lessons through her abundance."
Recently I have been giving deep thought to this. We have been doing programs, etc. for decades and the problems persist. So what to do? How to get to the greatest number of people in the shortest possible time to have them wake up to this. That it all starts with each one of us, then it moves out into a circle to family, friends, community, etc. But first we have to wake up from the deep slumber we have been in and do it quickly.
You had mentioned that you had been there (re the sledgehammer approach). I am not even sure "The Y Experience" Event is the right way for me to go anymore. I guess I am re-evaluating and re-thinking everything.
I do know one things for absolute sure. When humans reawaken to the beauty and wonder of Nature, they reawaken to wonder and beauty within themselves and thus each other.

It can be devastating to watch people suffer, or even crash and burn. Witnessing this world deteriorate before our very eyes, due to our self-centeredness, actions and lack of action, greed and overall gross neglect, is horrific.....and very real. When something touches us so deeply that it consumes us and becomes our purpose, we want to share it with the world, so that others can help us to convey our messages. There is one problem with that, as long as this society revolves around ME, ME, ME....we as a whole will have difficulty becoming the change that this world needs.
We need to ask questions that cause people to self reflect. Introspection is the key to understanding. What is important to us? Are we as individuals doing things that reflect our stated beliefs? Do we even believe change possible? Are we doing the best job we possibly can to support the things we believe in? When we lecture others and judge them, they shut down. They tune us out. People need to feel that they are given choices, not ultimatums. A very wise and wonderful man in my life opened my eyes several months ago when I expressed my frustration about so many things in this world. He listened and thought for a moment. He responded by saying this "All you can really do Jen is to be the best possible person you can be. By being the best possible person you can be, you may inspire others to become the best possible people they can be." From that point on, I decided to live as LOVE. No contingencies. Just pure, unadulterated LOVE.
