“Five Accessories is a socially conscious company sourcing fairly traded items in developing area. Five dollars from each handbag sale and 15% from other sales are donated to worthy cases in the locale where they are handmade. Our mission is to generate income for individuals in need, donate a large portion of our sales to worthy charities and foster the use of sustainable material in fashion.” This is the “power of five”.
Five Accessories sources collections of different types bags, wallets, photo frames, and jewelry from India, Guatemala, Cambodia, Honduras and Bali, Indonesia. The company has partnered with Street Wise, a not-for-profit, helping the homeless and soon-to-be homeless in Chicago. Through the Off The Street Program they empower these men and women with opportunities to create goods they can in turn sell for their own profit.
We received a very nice photo frame from Five Accessories that was made
through the Off The Streets Program by Roark Moody. The photo frame was decorated with used transit cards and tickets from the Chicago subway system. So an item that would otherwise end up our landfills is now a creative and fashionable decorative piece. With each Off The Street item there is tag attached with the artist’s information and his/her photograph while making the pieces. We found that this was a really nice way to humanize the creation of the frame and create a greater connection between the buyer and the program. We really appreciate Five Accessories socially conscious mission to help and empower those in need.
If you need to purchase gifts this season, the photo frames, bags and jewelry would make terrific gifts as well as creating a valuable dialogue for social good.
