Valentine's day is coming up in a few days and pink and red aren't the only colors that have to dominate. Here are some green V Day alternatives to the standard gifts so you can celebrate by being thoughtful and conscious at the same time. Let's start off with foods that are considered aphrodisiacs. Food can stimulate all of the senses- the aroma, the feel, the look, of course taste and even the sound can all be a part of the sexy experience. According to an article in MSN's Health and Fitness, lavender and pumpkin are two smells that turn men on the most. Furthermore, if ingested, they can increase blood flow as well. The sweet, rich and sultry aromas of almond and vanilla act as pheromones as well. While certain fruits and veggies tend to evoke sensuality from their look and feel, they may also contain nutrients that help increase libido. Vitamins A, B1, C, Zinc and Selenium all help in maintaining sex drive. So pick up some luscious and luxurious peaches, plums and figs as a start. Consume something creamy like butternut squash soup. Lower your inhibitions with a drink including the silky, clean taste of vodka. And don't forget to chew on some parsley or mint leaves after all this rich food for fresh breath ;). If you don't think veggies can be sexy, check out this PETA commercial from a few years back.
Wear or give her some eco friendly lingerie. Who knew? I've heard of eco fashion but a sexy lingerie was a surprise find. Using organic cotton and chemical-free silk and they still look hot. Check out EcoBoudoir
Either alone or with your significant other, have some Good Clean Love. This is a company that produces all natural and healthy (that means no petrochemicals or parabens) products that you can purchase online or at retailers such as Whole Foods. You can find body desserts, butters and oils along with some other fun items. Check out their homepage: Good Clean Love As for cards, instead of giving a store bought one from CVS, try sending an Ecard. It may seem impersonal but if you include your own sweet nothings, it will be way more well-received than one written by Shoebox. Check out this site called Positively Green Cards they don't have valentine-specific ones but they do have some in the name of love. Printed on recycled paper and using soy ink, these cards are quaint and poignant. You may also find other brands at Whole Foods locations (you think I'm really into them?) I'm not a big valentines person but there are many who are. So have a good time whatever you do and don't forget to consider that this day is about love and that can extend to your mother, nephew, sister and most importantly your Self!
