The year 2009 was the warmest for the country in the past 110 years with abnormally warm conditions during winter and monsoon seasons, the India Meteorolical Department said.
According to the IMD, annual mean temperature was 0.913 degree celsius above the annual mean temperature of 24.6 degrees for 1961-1990. 2010, too, is likely to be another warm year.
The increased temperatures do decrease crop yields. I hope this trend does not continue for long as the country is already experiencing food shortages.
