European Union is set to achieve target of deriving at least 20 percent energy from renewable sources by 2020.
The target is part of the EU's so called 20-20-20 strategy, which also foresees a 20 percent reduction in greenhouse emissions below 1990 levels and a 20-percent increase in energy efficiency, all by 2020.
"This is a very positive sign for the environment, as it will help us to cut carbon dioxide emissions and at the same time enhance energy security," Energy Commissioner Guenther Oettinger commented.
