The Food and Drug Administration just released a statement that Cheerios is a drug and that parents who are feeding their kids this cereal are considered drug pushers.
SERIOUSLY??!!!
Those happy little O's are now considered a drug?
I really couldnt believe this statement that was put in the Washington Times on Sunday June 21. "Based on claims made on your product's label, we have determined that your Cheerios Toasted Whole Grain Oat Cereal is promoted for conditions that cause it to be a drug because the product is intended for use in the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of disease" the FDA letter said. "[Cheerios] may not be legally marketed with the above claims in the United States without an approved new drug application."
This means if the FDA wins this fight against Cheerios, all the boxes will have to be pulled from the shelves and the kids "could only get their morning "fixes" with a prescription from their doctors" claims the online article.
So the fact that the box claims to lower colesterol and helps reduce the risk of heart disease classifies the product as a "drug". I guess when Obama took office and announced its time for change, this is one of those things. Taking all our "health foods" off the shelves and replacing them with prescription drugs. Sorry milk, but you got to go for claiming you prevent ostoporosis. Goodbye cranberry juice for helping my urinary tract.
What are your thoughts on this? Is the FDA going to far? Would you feed your kids cereal that claims to have health benefits?
